What does the Quran say about arrogance and ego?

In short

Allah does not love the arrogant. Even an atom's weight of pride is dangerous. Remember that every blessing you have is from Allah, walk humbly, and treat people with respect whatever their status.

اللہ تکبر کرنے والوں کو پسند نہیں کرتا، ذرہ بھر تکبر بھی خطرناک ہے۔ ہر نعمت اللہ کی ہے، عاجزی اختیار کریں۔

Surah Luqman 31:18–19 Read in context

وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍۢ فَخُورٍۢ ﴿18﴾

اور (ازراہ غرور) لوگوں سے گال نہ پھلانا اور زمین میں اکڑ کر نہ چلنا۔ کہ خدا کسی اترانے والے خود پسند کو پسند نہیں کرتا

And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

وَٱقْصِدْ فِى مَشْيِكَ وَٱغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ ۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ لَصَوْتُ ٱلْحَمِيرِ ﴿19﴾

اور اپنی چال میں اعتدال کئے رہنا اور (بولتے وقت) آواز نیچی رکھنا کیونکہ (اُونچی آواز گدھوں کی ہے اور کچھ شک نہیں کہ) سب آوازوں سے بُری آواز گدھوں کی ہے

And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

Surah Al-Israa 17:37 Read in context

وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ ٱلْجِبَالَ طُولًۭا ﴿37﴾

اور زمین پر اکڑ کر (اور تن کر) مت چل کہ تو زمین کو پھاڑ تو نہیں ڈالے گا اور نہ لمبا ہو کر پہاڑوں (کی چوٹی) تک پہنچ جائے گا

And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.

It Is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), observed:He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people

یحییٰ بن حماد نے کہا : ہمیں شعبہ نے ابان بن تغلب سے حدیث سنائی ، انہوں نے فضیل بن عمرو فقیمی سے ، انہوں نے ابراہیم نخعی سے ، انہوں نے علقمہ سے ، انہوں نے حضرت عبد اللہ بن مسعود ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے اور انہوں نے نبی کریمﷺ سے روایت کی ، آپ نے فرمایا : ’’ جس کے دل میں ذرہ برابر تکبر ہو گا ، وہ جنت میں داخل نہ ہو گا ۔ ‘ ‘ ایک آدمی نے کہا : انسان چاہتا ہے کہ اس کے کپڑے اچھے ہوں اور اس کے جوتے اچھے ہوں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : ’’ اللہ خود جمیل ہے ، وہ جمال کو پسند فرماتا ہے ۔ تکبر ، حق کو قبول نہ کرنا اورلوگوں کو حقیر سمجھنا ہے ۔ ‘ ‘
