Surah Al-Balad with Urdu and English translation

90:1Make a reel of this ayah

لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ﴿1﴾

ہمیں اس شہر (مکہ) کی قسم

I swear by this city, Makkah -

90:2Make a reel of this ayah

وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ﴿2﴾

اور تم اسی شہر میں تو رہتے ہو

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -

90:3Make a reel of this ayah

وَوَالِدٍۢ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﴿3﴾

اور باپ (یعنی آدم) اور اس کی اولاد کی قسم

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],

90:4Make a reel of this ayah

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ ﴿4﴾

کہ ہم نے انسان کو تکلیف (کی حالت) میں (رہنے والا) بنایا ہے

We have certainly created man into hardship.

90:5Make a reel of this ayah

أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌۭ ﴿5﴾

کیا وہ خیال رکھتا ہے کہ اس پر کوئی قابو نہ پائے گا

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

90:6Make a reel of this ayah

يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًۭا لُّبَدًا ﴿6﴾

کہتا ہے کہ میں نے بہت سا مال برباد کیا

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

90:7Make a reel of this ayah

أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ﴿7﴾

کیا اسے یہ گمان ہے کہ اس کو کسی نے دیکھا نہیں

Does he think that no one has seen him?

90:8Make a reel of this ayah

أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ ﴿8﴾

بھلا ہم نےاس کو دو آنکھیں نہیں دیں؟

Have We not made for him two eyes?

90:9Make a reel of this ayah

وَلِسَانًۭا وَشَفَتَيْنِ ﴿9﴾

اور زبان اور دو ہونٹ (نہیں دیئے)

And a tongue and two lips?

90:10Make a reel of this ayah

وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ ﴿10﴾

(یہ چیزیں بھی دیں) اور اس کو (خیر و شر کے) دونوں رستے بھی دکھا دیئے

And have shown him the two ways?

90:11Make a reel of this ayah

فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ ﴿11﴾

مگر وہ گھاٹی پر سے ہو کر نہ گزرا

But he has not broken through the difficult pass.

90:12Make a reel of this ayah

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ ﴿12﴾

اور تم کیا سمجھے کہ گھاٹی کیا ہے؟

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

90:13Make a reel of this ayah

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ﴿13﴾

کسی (کی) گردن کا چھڑانا

It is the freeing of a slave

90:14Make a reel of this ayah

أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌۭ فِى يَوْمٍۢ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍۢ ﴿14﴾

یا بھوک کے دن کھانا کھلانا

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

90:15Make a reel of this ayah

يَتِيمًۭا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ ﴿15﴾

یتیم رشتہ دار کو

An orphan of near relationship

90:16Make a reel of this ayah

أَوْ مِسْكِينًۭا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍۢ ﴿16﴾

یا فقیر خاکسار کو

Or a needy person in misery

90:17Make a reel of this ayah

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ ﴿17﴾

پھر ان لوگوں میں بھی (داخل) ہو جو ایمان لائے اور صبر کی نصیحت اور (لوگوں پر) شفقت کرنے کی وصیت کرتے رہے

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

90:18Make a reel of this ayah

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ ﴿18﴾

یہی لوگ صاحب سعادت ہیں

Those are the companions of the right.

90:19Make a reel of this ayah

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ﴿19﴾

اور جنہوں نے ہماری آیتوں کو نہ مانا وہ بدبخت ہیں

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.

90:20Make a reel of this ayah

عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌۭ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ ﴿20﴾

یہ لوگ آگ میں بند کر دیئے جائیں گے

Over them will be fire closed in.
